Create the adverts (U20: P4, M3)
Learning outcome 3 (U20): Be able to produce the planned media components.
Create production materials to be used in the original media product (U20 P4)
For the Phizzwizzard advertising campaign we made three adverts; a billboard advert, magazine advert, and a video advert. We did this to ensure we had a variety of methods that we could in order to successfully target our potential audiences. We made sure to maintain a constant theme throughout the campaign to create synergy, which was crazy science. Our slogan was "Phizzwizzard. The science of explosive flavours". This choice of wording makes sure that the flavour of the drink stands out the most to readers, and sticks in their minds as what they remember the most about the advert. Similarly, the slogan is also catchy and easy to remember.
Billboard:
Audience feedback:
For our billboard it stands out because of the bright colours and bold fonts, making it easier for people to notice, and easier for people to remember the brand - increasing our brand awareness. They liked that the slogan was big and bold on the page suggesting that we want consumers to remember the slogan and be able to relate it back to our brand. The slogan also remains consistent with the theme of science. Similarly, they also liked that we included strawberry laces and strawberries on the page to show consumers what the flavour of the drink is.
However they felt the page was too busy and takes attention away from the drink by including the water patterns. A way to combat this would be to place the Phizzwizzard can in the centre of the page to show what we are clearly advertising.
Magazine:
Audience feedback:
For my magazine advert people liked that we maintained the science theme, whilst keeping the advert relevant to the drink and not going to off-topic. Similarly, the contrast of light and dark pink in the background compliment the cut out of the actor and make him more eye catching to readers flicking through a magazine. Having strawberry laces coming out of the beaker, and strawberries in the corner of the page makes sure consumers are aware of the flavour of the drink and doesn't cause any confusion.
People also thought it conveyed lighthearted humour which appeals to all of my target audiences.

Audience feedback:
For my video advert people liked that it was lighthearted and funny, and with the fast pace it reminded some viewers of Dr Brown from Back To The Future. They also liked that the music was fast paced because it added excitement to the video, and made it more suspenseful making viewers question the scientists next move.
However, they said the image sequences could have shorter cuts, so rather than having 1 second of screen time for each image, it could be cut down to 1/2 second. They also said that the image sequences could feature a wider variety of images because they were a bit repetitive. On the other hand, they liked the title page because it featured the campaign # and social media handles. Which will help to expand our brand awareness.
Create production material that follows the codes and conventions of the chosen genre for the media product. (U20 M3)
Above, are the three adverts I created for Phizzwizzard - a magazine advert, billboard advert and a video advert. I did this to maximise the amount of people who could see the advert, as well as a method that enables me to target different people in different ways. For example my main target audience of 13-18 year olds are more present on social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat, so by placing an advert on those platforms it will ensure teenagers are exposed to my campaign. Whereas the older end of my target audience are less likely to see the adverts on Instagram and Snapchat, but would likely see the advert if it was on Facebook or in a magazine, or even on a billboard whilst going past. Similarly, across all the adverts we made sure to use bright, vibrant colours to attract audience attention, even if it may be passive - such as passing by in a car but picking up on the key campaign information. Mountain Dew use billboard and social media adverts that create synergy to ensure that their adverts can be recognised and related back to the brand. They also do this to increase their brand awareness. During our research, we decided it would be in our best interests if we also did this, it also meets the codes and conventions of an advert campaign. We were inspired by the billboard by Mountain Dew because it is simple, yet effective. It also clearly shows what they are advertising along with their slogan. The bright green colours also stand out to drivers passing by, so we will incorporate this into our billboard in order to draw attention to our brand and increase our brand awareness. The magazine advert also gave us inspiration because of the simple design and play on words in the slogan. Moreover, both adverts make the drink the main focus so that people aren't confused by what the company are advertising.
In our video advert we used the theme of crazy science to promote Phizzwizzard. This lighthearted humour to make consumers feel they can express their true personalities. There is scripted speaking throughout the advert, until the final scene when the drink is revealed, we decided to do this to make the music stand out more against the sped up footage. Similarly, we made sure to use the same slogan and theme throughout each advert, as well as the same hashtag to boost our brand awareness and ensure that we appeal to our main target audience of 13-18 year olds. The music for our video was chosen based on the quiet and slow paced intro which builds up into an upbeat and happy song. The video begins with our actor walking down an empty school hallway and into a dull classroom. However, once he puts on his lab coat he is overcome with excitement and once the music becomes louder, the actor begins to turn into a crazy scientist. I felt that the best location to film the video advert was at school because they have an entire science department stocked with equipment that we can use to keep the theme consistent throughout. The actor also works at the school, which means it is easier to communicate with him on the best times to film without having to travel any long distances. We used the idea from Dr Brown - a character in Back To The Future who is known for his crazy hair and chaotic science experiments. We tried to manipulate this idea and make it relevant to Phizzwizzard in order to appeal to our different target audiences of 13-18 year olds and 18+. Moreover, the main aim of our video was to keep the humour lighthearted whilst also keeping our message clear about the product we are advertising.
